Bafana Bafana winger Thapelo Maseko says his move from Mamelodi Sundowns to FC Copenhagen is a dream come true and he is ready to contribute to the team’s success.
The 22-year-old joins the Danish side on a four-year deal after a successful spell with the two-time African champions. During his time at Chloorkop, he lifted two league titles, the African Football League and the CAF Champions League, having featured in 45 matches, scoring three goals and providing one assist across all competitions.
Maseko follows in the footsteps of Sibusiso Zuma, who joined the club and became a legend after featuring in 167 matches, scoring 47 goals and providing 40 assists.
The former SuperSport United winger said he has come to make his mark on the historic club.
“I am very proud of this agreement. It is a dream come true,” Maseko said on the club’s website.
“For me, FC Copenhagen is a very special club. It is a club that is very recognised internationally, and Zuma has told me so many good things about the club, the fans and the city.”
Zuma spent six years with the club and won four trophies. He was recently honoured by the club for his iconic bicycle-kick goal that he scored in the last minute against rivals Brøndby IF 25 years ago.
“I'm really looking forward to experiencing it all myself,” Maseko continued.
“I am very honoured to have this opportunity, and it gives me hunger and ambition.”
“I have come here to make a difference and leave my mark on the club. I have big ambitions for the club and for myself. I have come to win, and I am really looking forward to getting out on the training pitch and giving everything I have,” he concluded.
Copenhagen is in action on Thursday, 20 August, against Finnish side Inter Turku in the Europa Conference League Qualification Playoff match. It remains to be seen whether Maseko will make his debut.
