Mike and Mathew De Kock Runner Comments: 13 August 2026

Here are Lucky Fish Ambassadors Mike and Mathew de Kock’s comments for their runners on the classic track at the Vaal today:

Vaal - Thursday, 13 August 2026

Race 2 - 1000m: Thorn Bird

“A nice first-timer, Thorn Bird, by Rafeef. Her dam was an eight-time winning sprinter whose first foal ran a close third on debut last week. This one shows a lot of speed and does things right, so hopefully when push comes to shove, she can be a factor and get involved first time out.”

Race 6 - 1000m: Angel's Oasis

“Angel’s Oasis comes off a long layoff and will need the run, she is a bit heavy.”

Race 7 - 1450m: Cold Shine & Big Unit

“Big Unit hasn’t raced since December, a nice horse but will just need the run. He might be one to follow. Cold Shine galloped very well last week and he’s in a good space. Now that he’s in form and running well, it is the first time we’re stepping him up to 1450m. We’re hoping that he can run a good race for us.”
