Two big fixtures take centre stage this weekend, with Kaizer Chiefs taking on Mamelodi Sundowns before Arsenal go head-to-head with Manchester City in the Community Shield. Sundowns may start as favourites, but Chiefs’ strong league form means this could be closer than the odds suggest. In Cardiff, Arsenal and City are also expected to produce a tight contest, making the winner’s market a tricky one.
For Lucky Fish punters, there could be more value in markets such as goals, both teams to score and double chance. The big question is simple: which bets offer the best value without taking on too much risk? The preview and predictions below have answers.
Odds: 34/10 Kaizer Chiefs | Draw 23/10 | Mamelodi Sundowns 9/10
Date: Saturday, 15 August 2026
Kick-off: 15:00
Kaizer Chiefs host Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium in what should be one of the biggest early-season clashes in the Betway Premiership. Chiefs have made a strong start to their league campaign, beating Kruger United 3-1 and Sekhukhune United 2-0. Sundowns also began their season with a win, coming from behind to beat TS Galaxy 3-2. Both teams will therefore head into this fixture with confidence.
For Chiefs, the biggest concern could be fatigue. They have had a busy schedule, playing three matches in six days, and that could have an impact against a Sundowns side with plenty of depth. Fernando Da Cruz may have to manage his squad carefully, particularly with some players carrying fitness concerns. Mduduzi Shabalala will be one of Chiefs' key attacking outlets after scoring against Sekhukhune, and his ability to find space between the lines could be crucial.
Sundowns also have a few selection concerns, with Keanu Cupido and Arthur Sales recovering from surgery and Teboho Mokoena a major doubt after missing the Galaxy match. However, Miguel Cardoso still has an impressive squad at his disposal, giving him plenty of options to change the game during the 90 minutes. That depth could become particularly important if the match is close in the second half.
Masandawana are likely to have more possession and will look to move the ball quickly to create gaps in the Chiefs defence. Chiefs need to stay compact and avoid being pulled out of position. Their best chance may come from winning the ball and attacking quickly, especially into the space left behind Sundowns' advancing full-backs.
Amakhosi also need to make the most of set pieces. Downs showed some weaknesses defending dead-ball situations against TS Galaxy, so corners and free-kicks could give the home side another way to threaten. If Chiefs can stay disciplined defensively and take their chances when they come, they have a real chance of getting a result.
I expect a competitive and fairly tight match, particularly in the first half. Chiefs should benefit from playing at home and will make life difficult for Sundowns, but I think the African champions have enough quality and experience to find a way through.
Odds: 31/20 Arsenal | Draw 19/10 | Manchester City 33/20

Kick-off: 18:00
The Gunners face Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday, and this should be a good early test for both teams. Arsenal come into the game with confidence after winning the Premier League title, while City are starting a new chapter under Enzo Maresca after Pep Guardiola’s departure. That change gives Arsenal an advantage in terms of stability, but City still have enough quality to make this a very competitive game.
Arsenal’s main concern is in defence. William Saliba is still out with a back injury, while Jurrien Timber has also had fitness problems. That could force Mikel Arteta to change his preferred defensive setup. Arsenal have, however, strengthened their midfield with Bruno Guimarães, who brings energy, composure and the ability to carry the ball through pressure. He could play an important role against City.
City also have some questions to answer. Their squad is still adjusting to Maresca’s methods, while several players are returning after the World Cup. New signing Elliot Anderson could also make his debut, giving City another option in midfield. Rodri’s situation is another storyline to watch, with uncertainty surrounding his future.
The biggest tactical battle will probably be Arsenal’s press against City’s build-up. Arsenal will look to put City under pressure high up the pitch and force mistakes. If City can play through that pressure, though, they could find space behind Arsenal’s midfield and create dangerous attacking situations.
Bruno Guimarães and Declan Rice could be key for Arsenal in this area. City will try to close down Arsenal’s midfield, so having a duo that can receive the ball under pressure, turn and drive forward could help Arsenal break through City’s first defensive line. If they can do that consistently, Arsenal could create chances before City have time to get everyone behind the ball.
City will also look to test Arsenal’s defence, especially with Saliba missing. Their attackers can rotate positions and try to pull Arsenal’s defenders out of shape. Arsenal will need to stay disciplined and avoid leaving too much space between the defensive and midfield lines.
I expect this to be an open game with chances at both ends. City have the quality to hurt Arsenal, but Arsenal’s greater continuity and familiarity with Arteta’s system should give them the edge. The Community Shield is also early enough in the season that neither side is likely to be at full strength yet.
