Australia and South Africa meet on Sunday in what should be a fascinating Test match. The Wallabies will have home advantage in Perth and come into the game with plenty of confidence after a strong recent run of results. South Africa, meanwhile, arrive after a successful four-match Test series against New Zealand, although they have made many changes to their starting team for this match.
Australia have shown good improvement recently. They are unbeaten in their last five Tests, picking up wins against Italy and Japan and their most recent game ended in a 28–28 draw with Argentina. While they would have wanted to win that match, their recent run shows that Australia are becoming a much more competitive side.
South Africa come into the match with plenty of momentum too. The Springboks have been winning consistently and recently finished a four-match series against New Zealand with three victories after losing the opening game. Their final win, a 43–28 result, showed just how dangerous they can be when their attack gets going.
The Wallabies have made a few notable selection changes ahead of their clash with the Springboks in Perth, including a positional switch in the backline. Australia will also be led by a familiar face at No. 8 as they look to build on their recent run of results.
The Springboks have made 13 changes to the side that defeated New Zealand 43-28, with just two players retaining their starting places. There is also a new captain for the match, while several experienced players return and several younger players are given an opportunity as South Africa rotate their squad.
I expect Australia to stay in the contest and make South Africa work hard for the result. The Wallabies have enough attacking ability to score regularly, but I think the Springboks' strength up front and their experience in close Test matches will eventually make the difference.
