Calantha and Roaming Spirit will do duty for Lucky Fish Ambassadors Mike and Mathew de Kock in Race 7 over 1200m at the Vaal on Tuesday.

Race 7 - 1200m: Calantha

Following the scratching of Rachel Wall, Calantha has been installed as favourite on the Lucky Fish boards, trading at an adjusted price of 5-2 after opening at 4-1.

Mathew de Kock commented: “Calantha finished out of the frame last time when we expected better, and we couldn’t put a finger on it. She has a tendency not to run straight, and we’re putting blinkers on. Hopefully that brings out the best in her. If she gets into gear in a race like this, she’ll have strong eachway claims.”

Roaming Spirit

The backup is Roaming Spirit, consistently thereabouts in similar fields, and not out of it. Mat said: “She’s running nice races without troubling the winners. For her, we’re taking the blinkers off as they haven’t really made a difference. But we’re fitting her with a tongue-tie because she can make a bit of a breathing noise.

“With gear changes to both, we could have a decent result here. Both fillies are very effective on their day and doing well in their work at home.”
